Psychotherapy

“When I have been listened to and when I have been heard. I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on. It is astonishing how elements that seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens, how confusion that seems impossible turns into relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard”.

What is psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a talking therapy that helps people address any particular difficulties they are facing in their lives, which may relate to past experiences, or current life difficulties and challenges that impacts their emotional well being and/or relationships. It involves talking to a therapist, either one to one, or with a partner/family members to help you look at the problems and worries. Talking things through gives you a space to express your feelings which can help to relieve the emotional pain you may be experiencing and assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and the issues that are troubling you. Therapy aims to help you find new ways of approaching situations that you find difficult, and to identify the skills and resources that you need to guide you through these difficulties. It can involve bringing about changes in the way you think and behave that will improve your mental and emotional well-being, as well as new methods to help you cope.

Psychotherapy sessions are confidential, so you can talk about things you might not feel comfortable discussing with anyone else.

Individual sessions are 50 minutes long. Psychotherapy can be short or long term. Sessions usually occur on a weekly basis. The number of sessions will depend on you, your therapist, and the depth and complexity of the issues you want to resolve.
