About Deirdre

D

eirdre is a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapist with over 25 years experience of working with clients in various settings, including the NGO sector, public services and in private practice. She is also a qualified Life and Business Coach providing one to one coaching with individuals as well as working with organisations.

Deirdre worked for 15 years in specialist child and adolescent mental health services, both in the NGO and public sector. This involved provision of therapy to children and teenagers, as well as working with parents on parenting concerns and issues and providing family therapy. During this time Deirdre worked as Principal Psychotherapist in the Children’s University Hospital, Temple street, which involved a management and supervisory role.

Deirdre subsequently moved to take on a more strategic role in the area of children’s rights working in the Ombudsman for Children’s Office as a Senior Investigator before taking on the role of Acting Director of Investigations.

Deirdre has been working in Private Practice for over 8 years providing psychotherapy to adults, teenagers and families.

Deirdre is a registered member of the Family Therapy Association of Ireland and a Member of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy. She also holds the European Certificate in Psychotherapy.

Deirdre’s experience as a psychotherapist and her subsequent management roles, involving staff development led to her interest in the area of Life and Business Coaching. She completed a Leadership Development Programme and also qualified as a Life and Business Coach. She is a member of the International Coaching Federation.

Deirdre is skilled at

  • engaging and supporting clients to explore the most significant issues for them and how this is impacting their life
  • assisting clients to identify and strengthen their intrinsic skills and abilities that can be harnessed to help them in addressing the current situation
  • Enabling clients to develop alternative coping strategies, to access new ways of thinking and relating to themselves and others
  • developing ways forward with the issues that are prominent for them including exploring the options and actions available to them

    • Master of Science in Family Therapy, Practice, Teaching and Research (Tavistock Clinic in conjunction with the University of East London)
    • Diploma in Conflict and Dispute Resolution (Irish School of Ecumenics)
    • Diploma In Personal and Business Coaching (Irish Lifecoach Institute)
